PROF. DR. Fatma Handan Giray is a senior academic at the Agricultural Economics Department of Faculty of Agriculture of Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGU) where she works on teaching, training, and research in the area of agro-food supply chains and rural development. She has a particular interest to local agri-food products, geographic indications, food supply chains as a tool for rural development and implement participatory and moderation techniques in her socio-economic studies.

She has conducted many socio-economic studies for status analysis, value chain analysis, training need assessment and project/program development for research and implementation (income generation, replacement, value chain development, governance, vulnerable groups) in rural areas. She has good collaboration and communication with NGOs, public and private sector in the country and international contacts through her previous works and studies. She has taken part in local working groups for developing sectoral master plans, strategic analysis, and rural development action plans in the East Anatolia (TRA2) West Mediterranean (TR61), South-eastern Anatolia regions, and local action groups established under the LEADER programme across the country.

After her academic studies (1990-1998), first she worked for the Prime Ministry of Turkish Republic South-eastern Anatolia Project Regional Development Administration (GAP-RDA) where she participated in a number of national/international research and implementation projects in rural development and adult training (1998-2005); and later she worked as a scientific officer in the Agriculture and Life Sciences in the Economy (AgriLife) Unit of the European Commission Joint Research Center (JRC) Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) in Seville in Spain where she was affiliated with the Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development action (SUSTAG) from 2005 to the end of 2008.

Between 2009-2021, she worked as lecturer at the Agricultural Economics Department of Faculty of Agriculture of Suleyman Demirel University (SDU) in Isparta, Türkiye. She also served as vice dean where she was responsible for student affairs and international relations, between 2011-2015. In 2018, the SDU was divided into two universities and Faculty of Agriculture became a part of new university named Isparta University of Applied Sciences (ISUBU).

Since March 2021, she has been working at the Faculty of Agriculture of Eskisehir Osmangazi University. Between March 2021-August 2022, she served as a vice dean who was responsible international research collaborations and students’ affairs. Recently, she is head of the Department of Agricultural Economics where she teaches agricultural economics, agro-food marketing, rural development and project management, prepare/conduct projects , produce scientific papers/presentations, provide training, supervising graduate studies and consultancy at the same areas, and works as evaluator for national and EU projects.

She serves for editorial boards of scientific journals (e.g., Eurasian Journal of Agricultural Economics; Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management), administrative boards of ESOGU research centres (e.g., Women Studies Implementation and Research Center (ESKAM); Saving Economy and Sustainability Implementation and Research Centre) and Advisory Board of Artificial Intelligence Policy Association(AIPA) of Türkiye.
